Inspiration Behind Mod on the Moon

Launching our very first collection was so exciting and meaningful! As the designer, I wanted to incorporate as much of the 1960's as I could and take inspiration from some of my favorite designers of that time! Our first collection we launched in July 2021 with 5 to die for dresses that all took inspiration from 1960's Mod style with a Space Age twist; hence the name Mod on the Moon

I was directly inspired from two of my favorite 1960's space age designers. The first, Andre Courreges, who released a collection in 1964 called Moon Girls, that quite literally was out of this world and the gateway to shapes, materials, and a style not seen before.  I was inspired by his use of abstract shapes and lines and color blocking. His attention to detail inspired me so much, as I truly believe as a designer it is the little things that say so much!

Pierre Cardin, alike Andre, embraced the futuristic side of fashion with short mini dresses, go go boots, and wild geometric shapes. He was known for his techniques and construction when it came to designing. I was always so inspired by the way he used construction as a way to make even the most simple a lined mini dress into a work of art. Telling Vogue in 1964 “Every dress is an adventure in ideas.” I wanted to capture his style of construction and shapes into my garments and take a simple shift dress and make it fit really beautifully on anyone.

Also, nothing speaks more to me than the bright and bold colors of the 1960's. Its no surprise that a few of my favorite colors are orange, pink and yellow (as seen in our logo!) The 60's used colors in such a fun way and I really wanted the first collection to stand out and represent that. The mod culture of the 60's was so representative of this in their use of colors and combining colors together. Most people are familiar with one of the greatest Mod icons of all time-Twiggy, who wore colors like no one else!

Each dress of the Mod on the Moon collection had its own bits and pieces inspired by so many other elements of the 1960's! But as a whole I have always love this era of fashion for the way that it transformed fashion as we know it today!

It was my goal to pay homage to my favorite decade of fashion and bring to life real vintage fashion for the modern day!
